Old North Festival Chorus
-- 2022 Spring Season --
A safe and heartfelt Welcome Back!
Lenten Choral Concert Announced!
Maria van Kalken, Director of the Old North Festival Chorus and Minister of Music at Old North Church, has announced plans for the Annual Lenten Choral Concert – especially meaningful this season, as it marks the first time the Chorus has performed in person since March 2020 – and extends a warm and enthusiastic welcome to all to attend!
Celebrating her 33rd season as Director of the Festival Chorus, Maria has organized a beautiful choral concert to take place on Sunday, April 10, 2022, at 7:30pm, Palm Sunday. Members of the Old North Senior Choir, soloists, and singers from the Old North Festival Chorus will present this 70-minute concert in the sanctuary at Old North Church in Marblehead. This event marks the beginning of Holy Week and was established to offer members of the Marblehead community a program of musical reflection by candlelight. Over the years, the ensemble has established an impressive reputation for performing challenging and extraordinary musical programs.
The centerpiece for the Annual Palm Sunday Lenten Concert will be the beloved Requiem in D minor, Op. 48, by Gabriel Fauré. In addition to this choral masterpiece, the program will include Cantique de Jean Racine, Op.11, also by Fauré, and other music of the season with audience participation in the singing of Lenten hymns. Featured Old North vocal soloists include: Holly Cameron, soprano; Gabriela Fagan, mezzo-soprano; and Daniel Fridley, bass; Michael Kraft will serve as organist for this program, supported by a selection of string players.
As we return to in-person concerts and performances this season, the health and safety of Old North Festival Chorus singers, guest artists, and audience, is our highest priority. Patrons attending this indoor concert will be required to show proof of vaccination against COVID-19, and wear a well-fitted mask covering their nose and mouth at all times throughout the performance. Thank you for your cooperation!
The Old North Annual Lenten Choral Concerts are FREE and open to the public, though a free-will offering will be gratefully accepted. Old North Church is accessible for the physically impaired.
